You might not have known that this is Virginia CPA week, and likely your children didn't know, either.

Consider joining CEO Update. Membership gives full access to the latest intelligence on association management, career advancement, compensation trends and networking events, as well as hundreds of listings for senior-level association jobs.
To address that, the Virginia Society of CPAs is donating 1,000 copies of a picture book encouraging children of diverse backgrounds to consider becoming certified public accountants. Sept. 20-26 is Virginia CPA Week, as proclaimed by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam.
"When I Grow Up I Want to Be … an Accountant," written by Adrian L. Mayse, is being donated to elementary schools, libraries, community centers and other organizations, VSCPA said in a statement. Mayse is chair of accounting at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
"Accountants look like me. They look like you," writes Mayse, who is Black. ]
"Promoting the possibilities of a career in accounting to elementary students is a wonderful way to celebrate Virginia CPA Week this year," VSCPA CEO Stephanie Peters said in a statement.
"It's crucial that we encourage students to consider the immense doors accounting can open, and as part of our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, we also want to help increase the number of minority students who choose to pursue accounting and the CPA designation," she said.
VSCPA is encouraging the use of #CountOnCPAs on social media to build awareness of the importance of CPA services. More information and ways to celebrate the week is available at www.vscpa.com/CountOnCPAs.
